CLRA Alberta Chapter presents

'Fake News'
Debunking Myths with Science & Innovation

More and more criticism seems to be directed toward industry and development throughout our province. Are the critics correct? Do our energy and environmental industries deserve the reputation that has been prolifically broadcast in the news and across social media? Often it seems the hard work, innovation, and progress we have made, and continue to make, is dismissed or seems to remain unknown to the general population and to those who have the loudest voice on important environmental issues.

It is our responsibility as reclamation and remediation professionals to set the record straight and spread the message of what is actually happening within our province and area of expertise. What kind of work is going on? How are science and innovation affecting development now and in the future? How is the next generation of reclamation specialists preparing to question the status quo, create, and embrace innovation in Alberta reclamation?

The Student Mentor Program is designed to help students attending the conference learn the ropes, meet some new people, and feel comfortable within our world of reclamation. To accomplish this, we pair Students with “Mentors” from the environmental community who are also attending the conference. The role would not take much effort on the Mentors part,, but would make a big difference in how Students experience the conference and would contribute to the professional development of individuals who will soon be entering the field.
